If it’s a seasonal cold or flu, perhaps it means we’ve caught a virus or bug because our immune system is depleted. Maybe we have been overworking ourselves or perhaps working at a job that we dislike. Not getting the proper nutrients in our diet by eating unhealthy foods or not getting enough exercise could be two more reasons. There are no mysteries about these things. However, what if that short-termed illness is just a clue to a larger problem.
Perhaps a larger illness will follow (or has already arrived). You may not even make a connection between the two or more dis-eases. The universe gives gentle nudges, starting out. Your guides, angels, messengers give you subtle clues, that a change needs to take place. When we miss the sign post on the path of life, the next message gets a bit heavier. Most of us are pretty dense and eventually we get a “brick in the head.” It might be a chronic disorder, heart disease or it might be the big “C” word, cancer. We go to our medical physician and they test us, diagnose the problem and then treat a piece of our body. We have to wonder why, as it’s so very obvious that every part of our body is connected. What touches one part, will be effecting all the parts. It even effects our mind and spirit, illness travels both ways.
The things making us sick might just be our emotions, what we tell ourselves, guilt, sadness, loss - all those things we consider negative. To quote a new, but good friend, “It’s like drinking a cup of poison every day.” Yet, it’s easy enough for someone else to tell you to just stop. But, in reality, it’s not that easy to stop feeling guilty about a past transgression. It’s not easy to stop feeling alone when you’ve lost a loved one. It’s not easy to quit a job you hate, when you have a family to take care of. It’s not easy to feel good about yourself, when you don’t like what you see in the mirror, especially when you’ve been told that your appearance is “not good enough.” Another reason for disease is Karma. It could be something from a another lifetime or this life. It is never meant as a punishment, as some say. It's a means to learn and experience. Let’s look at some ways to heal these mental and emotional pains in the next post.
